[Eurohoops] Marc Gasol: "My conflict is between my desire to win and my loyalty to Memphis"

Yeh its looking like this title is being taken out of context by everyone in the comments, so i'll just leave this here:
Many fans criticized the 2013 Defensive Player of the Year, throughout the season, claiming that he pressured Memphis’ front-office to fire head coach David Fizdale. As Gasol says, the team believes that he (Gasol) is part of the solution and not the problem: "My conflict is between my desire to win and my loyalty to Memphis. Memphis believes that I am part of the solution, not the problem.
It was part of a learning experience. When looking for a change, you need to find the cause. It occurred in a way that maybe was not the desired one. Thinking about it now, I would have acted differently, but I remain calm. In the end, a business of so many millions of dollars is not decided by one player. The relationship between a player and a coach was not the best in the world… you are right", he said.

Man if Im Marc gasol I'd be chasing$. I feel like that's what most players should be doing the next few years while the warriors keep winning.

😥 Go get yourself a ring, Marc. I want to see you retire in blue and gold, but you deserve to compete.
[–][GSW] Draymond Greenveyd 661 指標 13小時前
Hey, I know how he could get a ring and keep wearing those colors.

I swear to God Draymond and his fucking phone need to cut it out.
(In all seriousness, I dont mind the warriors actions as much as everyone else. Nobody would be bitching if it was their team lol)

Boston traded Isaiah Thomas after his sister died and he played anyway, winning a decisive playoff series!
It's a business bro.

Translation: I want to leave but I don't want people to hate.

Sounds more like he has made his home in Memphis and he wants to win in Memphis, but knows his career is on the back end and is a competitive dude.

[–]Spursthelastdeskontheleft 203 指標 14小時前
I have yet to hear a better offer but I doubt Memphis agrees.
[–]Lakerspm_me_cheesy_bread 87 指標 14小時前
Why would Memphis not make this trade?

Imagine he follows his brother's footsteps and goes to Lakers? Disclaimer: not a Lakers fan but I can see their fandom clamoring for something to happen

I'd take Marc over most Centers in the league
[–][NYK] Baron Davisthemariokarters 303 指標 16小時前
I think most people would take a top 5 center over most centers in the league?

Memphis was such a powerhouse during its grit & grind era. Sucks that it ended the way it did
[–]WizardsMawly-G 126 指標 15小時前
Injuries ruined them. Specifically Mike Conley. Seemed to always have an injury when they needed him the most. Same thing happened to the Clippers. Just bad timing with injuries. It takes it's toll, eventually.

Drafting Thabeet really fucked them, Harden was the pick right after him, Curry and Derozan too. They draft any of those 3 and they would still be a power house.
[–]Knicks Tankswagonmatty_a 568 指標 15小時前
The last nbadraft.net mock before the draft had him going 6th. In May they had him going 3rd. It seems like a lot of people hated it at the time but talked themselves into it because it's much harder to disagree with consensus and actually take a stand.
2009 Draft Grades:
NBADraft.net (A-): The Grizzlies wanted to improve their rebounding, defense and overall toughness. In those regards, this was a great draft. Thabeet certainly makes a lot of sense here and has tremendous potential.
Bleacher Report (B-): I would have preferred the Grizzlies move this pick for whoever wanted Ricky Rubio that badly, but obviously they didn't get an offer they couldn't refuse. While Hasheem Thabeet has incredible defensive abilities, I doubt he will ever be a low post scorer.
ESPN (A-): I am not a huge fan of Thabeet but understand why the Grizzlies went that way. Ricky Rubio wasn't cooperating, and Thabeet can help the Grizzlies, who needed a big, athletic shot-blocker. He is limited offensively, but he can change the game on defense.
Hoops Analyst (B): I don’t see Thabeet as another Darko, Bradley, Stipanovich, Olowokandi or any center who was drafted too early because he was very, very tall. Thabeet is better than those guys. He isn’t an elite center, but he could become an elite defender. Think of him as a lesser Mutombo. That’s not a terrible thing, especially on a team that could use a defensive presence.
Danny Leroux (Bad): An absolute disaster for a team that needs some good things. I cannot see how Marc Gasol can play PF (obviously Thabeet can?t), and getting an asset like Rubio would have been gigantic for a team that needs a playmaker who can also play D, who fits next to OJ Mayo.
Kelly Dwyer, Yahoo (A+): [Sam] Young will help right away, and that's about it. [Demarre] Carroll can play, and Thabeet will become a hell of a player.
[–]SpursModsEmbezzleMoney 531 指標 15小時前
Danny Leroux knew.... Not about OJ though
[–]76ersWalkingThePlanes 440 指標 14小時前
OJ was really really good. Drug problems, personal problems, things went badly, but not because he was bad at basketball.
[–]BullsFalt_ssb 178 指標 14小時前
OJ Mayo was pretty decent at the beginning of his career tbf
[–][NOP] Carldrell Johnson8512332158 140 指標 14小時前
Yeah it's one of those things where people retroactively shit on the griz but that wasn't their fault
