That shot still amazes me. It’s only like a 5 footer, but the speed and angle he’s at makes it such a bizarre shot. Also essentially having to do a tip in shot to beat the buzzer. Just crazy.

Yeah, 99% of the time he was in the finishing lineup with Tony and Duncan. He came off the bench because his bizarre playmaker/scoring guard play-style elevated everyone who shared the floor with him - putting that against a second unit not only elevates the second unit, but makes teams second units or tired starters face off against what what we just saw in the clip.

Playoff time he was more often than not right there next to Tony and Tim, at least early in his NBA career.

Some context to this shot, and why there was so much pent-up emotion (seen especially on Argentina's coach Rubén Magnano): these two teams had already played the final game of the 2002 Indianapolis FIBA World Championship.

At the time representing Yugoslavia and led by one of the best players to not have played in the NBA, Dejan Bodiroga, they had knocked out the US in quarterfinals (with the likes of Paul Pierce, Michael Finley, Reggie Miller and Jermaine O'Neal among others), an American team that was shook after losing to Argentina the previous game in group stage. On the other hand, Argentina had a tough way to the final, grinding a win against Dirk's Germany in the semifinals. Manu rolled his ankle at the end of that game, so it was a bittersweet win because that injury would force him to sit out the game for the gold against Yugoslavia. A hard-fought game, in which Argentina led for most of the fourth quarter, ended with Bodiroga carrying Yugoslavia to tie the game at 75, and then some controversy as there were some plays that the Argentine players felt were not refereed properly. Yugoslavia forced the overtime, in which they showed their experience to finish the game off and get the gold.

So it's now the 2004 Olympics, and these two teams (representing Serbia and Montenegro were most of the players from the 2002 Yugoslavia team) face again in group stage. Manu has a chip on his shoulder, after being unable to play and having to watch his team fail to get the gold. The game was again super physical and hard-fought, and it ended how it's seen on this video. So for most of those Argentine players and coaches, this was the "revenge" after the 2002 disappointment. And for Manu personally, even with all his NBA accolades, he has called this "the shot of his career."

Aussie men basketball stoked at their Bronze medal and French men their silver. Next Olympics going to be so good. Seems very even with Spain and Argentina losing some older players while Slovenia rising. Top 8 could be very spicy and we could see a Manu 2.0 where USA don't win gold

It honestly might be one of the most impressive feats in basketball history. Manu (and Scola) took down a team USA with Kobe, AI, Melo, Wade, Lebron, and Duncan.

It's so understated. On paper they had no business even making a game with team USA competitive.

Manu was a 57th pick and Scola was a 56th pick for context.
