RULE NO. 5: Scoring and Timing | NBA Official

A request for a timeout by a player in the game or the head coach shall be granted only when the ball is dead or in control of a player on the team making the request.

前半句是主语，哪些人发请求，a player in the game or the head coach，一个球员或者主教练；后半句是条件，什么情况下请求会通过，the ball is dead or in control of a player on the team making the request，死球，或者球在发出请求的一方其中一位球员的手里。可以清楚的看出，没有强调必须持球人才能发请求。

也许有人会有疑问，如果making the request是用来形容a player的，而不是the team的呢？那第二个条件就变成了球必须在发出请求的球员手里，也就是说必须得有球员发出请求才行，只有教练发请求是不行的。
