本赛季，NBA将放松对于走步的限制。允许球员在接球或运球后，在完成下一个动作前走两步。
新规则全文如下：“球员在前进中接球，或即将完成运球的时候，在停下、传球或投篮前允许走两步。”（"A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball."）
本次修改修改也使NBA成为世界上第一个明确规定走两步规则的联盟。
在此之前，虽然规则明文规定球员在上述情况下只能走一步，但联盟裁判早已开始按新的标准进行执法。在三月份， NBA分管裁判的副总裁Joe Borgia就曾爆料说裁判们被告知无视上述条款，按两步标准吹罚。
或许历史上判罚走步的尺度从来就很随意。录像显示，历史上的巨星诸如魔术师约翰逊、马拉维奇、库西和J博士长期多走一步。还有一种说法，前著名球星，现尼克斯解说员弗雷泽说，联盟近来为了提高比赛得分，放松了对走步的吹罚。
上赛季，一些NBA球员在接受采访时曾对上述规则表示困惑，但绝大多数都认为他们被允许走两步。新规则对于比赛的实际影响还有待进一步观察。

现在的修改是
A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball.
把two-count rhythm 修改成了 two steps，看来后续的所有规则似乎都不会改变，事实上，这就是我所说的“更加清晰的修缮”。
rhythm相较而言要求会比较高，不管在运球还是行进中接球，当你完成两个count之后，传球和射篮都不会有问题，但是停止状态就让你丧失了rhythm，这在任何的篮球课堂上都会被吹走步。而这，在目前的官方规则中我暂时没有找到详细的说明。
现在改成steps之后，就不用管这个rhythm了，两步之后停下发呆都可以，理论上是不会有问题了。
当然这也只是我的个人理解，还是要看赛季中裁判的吹罚而定。理论上来说今后我们会看到运球收球之后走两步然后原地发呆是合法的。
事实上，NBA的规则一直有很多语焉不详的地方，有很多小细节，尤其是走步、打手等，更多地是需要根据实际情况的判断。
另外，有意思的是，我刚发现
A player who comes to a stop on the count of two, with neither foot in advance of the other, may use either foot as the pivot foot.
也就是说只要双脚平齐，就能偷一步？这条我真的理解不能了。
